Cost Breakdown
Our in depth cost analysis
The Bus
After speaking with several different contracting companies that have worked on busses similar to the one we have designed, the cost of the vehicle has been narrowed down to between $200,000 and $350,000. The bus will be getting between 8-14 mpg.
The Drugs
The cost of Methadone per person is $4,700 per year. The average cost of an emergency room visit for opioid related medical problems over the last five years is $75,450. We can treat 16 times as many people with preventative medical care (Methadone) than we can with traditional ER treatments.
Medical Staff
On average around the country doctors make $89 per hour and nurses make $33 per hour. Volunteer staff is also being considered, as well as taking donations to cover the cost of supplies and gas.
Full Cost
To run a fully stocked medical bus of this nature for an entire year, given if it was operational every day, would cost $5,362,285. This number is derived from the cost of methadone for 1,020 patients, the cost of 3 doctors and 2 nurses running the bus for 3 hours a day, the cost of gas, and the cost of the bus itself.
Savings
However this is a large price tag, remember that it cost hospitals from 2011 to 2015 $11,800,380 a year to provide emergency care to opioid related cases. We could cut this down by more than half!
